A 689-acre outdoor escape, Freedom Park is as famous for its history as its recreational attributes. Home to sites including a 1700s graveyard, a late-1600s residence and recreated cabins designed and furnished after those held in one of the first free black settlements in the nation, the park is a valuable repository for regional and national historical events. Besides these reminders of the past, nearly two miles of hiking and five miles of bicycling trails let visitors enjoy the beauty of modern-day Virginia. The park is northwest of town, past Ford's Colony Resort and its golf courses.
Open daily 7:00 a.m. - sunset.
Free.
